Tina Manousakis

You're at a really great party, but feel like the only one in the room. Unnoticed. Unwanted. In gym class, the last one standing after all the others have been picked. The one left listening as your friends describe the event you weren't at. All of these are isolating experiences and not one of us is unfamiliar. I am truly isolated when I am not able to process or understand something.  I am isolated when people don't understand me. I am isolated when something unexpected or shocking happens and I can not talk about it. As a writer, I am isolated as the observer looking in, isolated in the act of writing. Sometimes, just being oneself is a form of isolation.
