J.S. Lewis

Being isolated doesn’t simply mean being alone. One can be in a room full of people and still feel isolated. It is also not about being lonely. Isolation means separating the self from others, loneliness only comes about if it is involuntary. Most people will seek others to quell the occasional feeling of loneliness, but that is only a temporary fix. Ultimately, it is impossible for an individual to not be isolated. A person cannot truly share their experiences with others; even words are an inadequate substitute. Their journey is their own. Their decisions are their own, regardless of external influences. Those who are never lonely have accepted their role as an individual and have stopped trying to fight their solitary nature. It will never be possible to know another as you know yourself.
